MLSDraft's Generation Adidas Class

As the College Cup final looms,we're near the time MLS announces this years Generation Adidas class. The rumour mill is quiet and with only one underclassman signed (Dilly Duka); it has a lot of fans curious as to who may will be available in this year’s draft. After watching these players for a few years, I took a stab at who I would target if I was the MLS.

MLSDraft's Top 10 Seniors

I’ve often thought about doing an early mock draft, but I always decide that there is no real reason for it. The lack of Generation Adidas players, the most coveted in the draft, just makes it silly. I think the most useful option at this point is to go through the top seniors of 2009.

Quite a few scouts and writers don’t believe that last years draft class will be duplicated this year. I agree for the most part, but  if all of these seniors decide to stay and play in the MLS, the group has a lot of potential. In no particular order here are my top ten seniors.

UNC Youth Defeats Sarkodie and Co.

Top Rightback: Ofori Sarkodie
With all eight matches going on in one day, I only had the chance to catch one game and it happened to be one of the better games of the day North Carolina vs. Indiana. These teams have met twice before in College Cup action, the series had been split 1-1 before today so on Sunday something had to give. The game ended in a 1-nil win for the Tar Heels and they did it in impressive fashion, the UNC midfield dominated the Hoosiers all afternoon in the middle of the field. Players like Kirk Urso and Michael Farfan were incredible, winning balls and then quickly switching the ball into an attack. Alex Dixon and Billy Schuler had a field day with all the touches they were getting, it was a shame that the Indiana defenders were organized or it would have been a bit out a shellacking.

I was wrong, but my team's still better!

The 2009 Expansion draft has come and gone, the following players should pack there bags and head to the beautiful city of Philadelphia. Or atleast bring an overnight bag as pick up a cheesesteak just incase they are traded.

2009 MLS Expansion Mock Draft

Wednesday is the first of two drafts this off-season, the 2009 expansion draft.  It is almost impossible to know what is going on in Peter Nowak’s head at the moment, but I figured it would be fun to take a shot at building my own MLS franchise.  So have a look at who I would choose if I was the manager of the Philadelphia Union

Bobby Convey – SJ ($220,000)

Convey is from Philly and has national team experience, he will be a lock to be picked in the draft.  The only problem with this is he had trouble last year playing at San Jose and just doesn’t look like the Convey of old, and with a massive contract it could be trouble. Doesn’t matter though, he will be Philly’s first player

The Final 16

With eight team’s only four wins away from being crowned the 2009 College Cup champions, the field could not look any better. Virginia has shown up to this tournament and looks like the team that went out and dominated the ACC in that tournament only weeks ago, with a 5-0 win over Bucknell, and then an upcoming match against the unranked Portland.  I would expect to see Virginia making it to the next round to face the winner of Maryland/Harvard.
