So far I've been awesome in these playoff previews.
By 'awesome', I mean as good as Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake in 2005. Or TFC in 2007. In other words, my predictions have been crap.
What better way to follow failure by putting my neck out on the line once more, lending myself to more possible embarrassment? Here goes.
Columbus Crew will win MLS Cup 2008.
The most improved club with the most improved supporters will take their most improved show on the road to Carson, California, where the it will culminate in the "Massive" club claiming its first ever Cup championship.
Throughout the season, there were far too many times when I had written them off as a lucky team on a hot streak, riding the coattails of theur Argentine superstar Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Every time it appeared that they would be slipping up, I would write them off only for the Crew to put together another multi-game winning streak, dispatching of every team that foolishly stepped in its path.
Indeed, Columbus has beaten every other MLS team at least once in 2008, after having finally gotten the Chicago Fire money off their back in the Eastern finals (following two 2-2 regular season draws with their midwestern opponents).
Up next is the plucky New York Red Bulls, the Cinderella team of these exciting playoffs. Completely outmatched heading into both previous mayoff series, the Red Bulls displayed the classic "not-so-good-team hot-at-the-right-time" post-season magic that sees them playing David to the yellow Goliath.from Ohio.
Last week I said that New York's fairy tale run had reached its end, only for them to put together a gargantuan performance in dismantling the two-time reigning champs Houston Dynamo. In Houston.
One would think, then, that I would be tempered in my predictions of an easy Columbus win on Sunday, but here I am, saying just that.
If Houston was the ultimate playoff team, Columbus is the ultimate team, period. Something New York has yet to run into thus far in this post-season run.
It'll prove to be too much for Juan Carlos Osorio's side.
Prediction: Columbus 3 - New York 1
It is great that you have acknowledged some great Canadian talent in the NCAA; however these players are all basically from the Big East. There are other Canadians who have faired extremely well in their NCAA careers. For instance my nephew has achieved many awards in his four years at St. Peter's.
His first year he was named to the ALL MAAC ROOKIE TEAM, and the ALL MAAC 2ND TEAM, his second year, third and fourth year he was named to the FIRST MAAC MEN'S TEAM, his fourth year he was also on the Herman Trophy Watch List, so you see as there are many that you know about there are some that you don't know about that also deserve your praises.
Are you talking about Chris deabreu??
Dont get me wrong, he has skill but he isnt good enough to make the next step to the mls. Seriously I used to play against him in a mens league in oshawa. So i know he can play, but im sorry he wont be making the jump to TFC.
