If you came here to have me gush about how great Fredy Montero was, you came to the wrong site. Don’t get me wrong, I had him winning the golden boot this year (TheScore.Com MLS Preview). But this blog is about the two rookies who played last night.

Steve Zakuani to enter MLS Draft?

Sources close to MLSDraft.net indicate there are strong rumours that Akron standout Steve Zakuani is going to pass on his final two years with the Zips and jump to MLS. The former Arsenal boy moved to the NCAA in 2007 in hopes of getting an education and becoming a professional soccer player. No one expected “Zaks” would lead the nation in points and goals in his sophomore year, tallying 20 goals and 7 assists. The striker was a force to be reckoned with this year.

Sounders Sign Freddie Ljungberg

Freddie To Join MLS
Today, the Seattle Sounders are to announce that they have singed former Swedish international Freddie Ljungberg to a $2.5M contract. The former Gunner hasn’t been on form as of late. After playing very little for Arsenal during the 06-07 season, Ljungberg made a move to West Ham where he spent most of his time on the injured list. He was then given a release from his contract, and had been in contact with a few MLS squads.
