Creighton defender Seth Sinovic prepared for the MLS Combine by participating in the Pro Pace Soccer Combine in Omaha, Nebraska on January 4, 2010. Sinovic's Pro Pace Soccer Combine coach, Burke Slusher, interviewed Sinovic for MLSDraft.net .
How would you best describe yourself as a player?
Drake defender Julien Edwards prepared for the
Sean Keay: After a full preseason, and a couple games under your belt. Do you feel like you are up to speed with the MLS game? What was the biggest transition from the College game to the Pro's other then the speed of the game?
Steve Zakuani: The biggest transition is the speed of play, and speed of thought. Everything happens a lot quicker, and at a much higher level. Like every new venture, it took me some time to adjust but I feel fine now, I'm enjoying it and still earning everyday, it's been great. The main things I've had to improve are off the ball things like tracking back and defending more, because I'm playing in midfield here, not up top like in college.
SK: What's the best part about moving to Seattle? And what is the worst part about leaving Akron.
Steve Zakuani had a season to remember, leading the nation in goals and points. He was unstoppable and as much as Akron didn’t want to believe he was going to jump at a pro deal, it was inevitable. Steve sits down with MLSDraft.net and explains why he came to America and what the next step is for the former Arsenal man. He is a man with a good head on his shoulders and I expect big things to come from him in the future.
Enjoy the interview!
Update: Just found a new link of Zakuani's goals this year, have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEp8mkw_VpU
Andrei Gotsmanov’s 10 goals and 4 assists from midfield this season helped the 16-2-2 Creighton Blue Jays reach the Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament. Andrei was just named a first team All-American and is currently a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy. His NCAA career orginally began at St. John's where he spent a single season leading his team in points and reaching the Elite 8. He then transferred to Creighton but in order to be a student athlete with the Blue Jays he had to complete 2 years of schooling. This ultimately led to a 2 year hiatus from NCAA soccer and made some forget about the potential that this young man has. Based on the accolades he is receiving this year, it is safe to say that he has cemented his name as one of the top players in the NCAA.
There is really only one way to describe Mike Pezza, and that is as a playmaker. As Mike told us, his biggest strength is his ability to drop a ball on a dime, that is clearly evident by his NCAA assist total. Last season Mike set a NCAA record with 19 assists in 24 matches, 10 of those assists coming on game winning tallies. O'Brian White received a lot of accolades last season when he was scoring goals for fun, but Mike had a huge part in setting up a lot of them.
This season was a difficult one for a UCONN team that was decimated with injury, it ended with a overtime loss to Creighton in the NCAA torunament. Pezza finished the campaign with 1 goal and 11 assists. Whether or not Pezza gets offered a Generation Adidas contract and goes pro this year remains to be seen, but this young man has the ability to be a playmaker at the next level.
This week we are happy to bring you an interview with Hoosier Brad Ring. In 2007 Brad was named as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten pick. It was announced yesterday that Brad has once again made the first-team All-Big Ten team.
Ring hasnt found himself in the same kind of attacking role as NCAA seasons past, and has proved he can play the key defensive role in midfield as evident by Indianas shutouts, many of them against ranked opponents. Although Ring has been unable to participate in the last few matches due to injury problems, Indiana finds themselves matched up against Michigan State in the finals of the Big-Ten tournamnet after knocking off Michigan, and Ohio State.
O’Brian White made headlines last season when he set the NCAA single season scoring record with 23 goals and was awarded the Hermann Trophy (the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer). White won the Big East rookie of the year award in 2005 and was named to the ALL-BIG EAST first team the past 2 seasons. This season White has been nominated for the Senior Class award which awards achievement in four areas: Classroom, Character, Community, and Competition.
The native of Jamaica who spent his high school years in Scarborough, Ontario has been linked by many to Toronto FC because of his Canadian residency, whether or not he gets selected by Toronto FC remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that (if he so chooses) White will be somewhere in the MLS next season.
We would like to thank O’Brian for taking some time and answering some questions for us at MLSDraft.net.
Daniel Revivo has scored at least 10 goals every year he has played in the NCAA and this year is no different, Daniel currently has 11 goals and sits 11th in the nation in points per game. The Eagles clinched the Big South regular season title with a come from behind win on Wednesday and hold the top seed heading into next weeks conference tournament. Revivo, who was named to the Hermann Trophy watch list, will be looking to help take Winthrop to the NCAA championship tournament and prove he can score against some of the nation’s best. His goalscoring record aside, MLS teams may be more enticed by Daniel as he holds duel citizenship (American and Canadian).
We would like to thank Daniel for his time and wish him all the best in the Big South tournament.
This week we are happy to provide you an interview with All-American Calum Angus. Calum is the main anchor on the Billikens backline, one that allowed a league low 13 goals last season. With a cannon of a shot and a good header Angus is a danger on any set piece as evident by his 7 goals as a Billiken.
Prior to joining the Univerity of Saint Louis Calum was a member of Portsmouth FC and won the U-18 title with the club. Usually we see players playing in the NCAA and then trying to head over to Europe, however Calum has taken the road less travelled and from what he tells us is loving every minute of life on this side of the pond. Be sure to look out for Calum on a MLS field near you.
